Recently, PSI-I (Psychological Studies Intersex International) hosted a podcast entitled Recognising Intersex in Abrahamic Religions. I was invited to participate alongside Peter Hegarty (who moderated the discussion), Susannah Cornwall, and Jayne Taylor. The episode has now been published as part of the PSI-I Podcast series.
In this conversation, we explored how intersex individuals have been identified, recognised, and interpreted within the Abrahamic religious traditions. The discussion examines the theological and legal frameworks through which intersex bodies have been understood. We also reflected on the ways in which religious traditions have, at different moments, acknowledged, accommodated, or at times stigmatised intersex people.
The episode offers an accessible introduction to these themes while highlighting the complexities and internal diversity within Jewish, Christian, and Islamic contexts.
